The More You Know About the ACT, the Better You’ll Do
The key to acing the ACT is learning as much as you can about the exam. We can quickly show you at one of our classes or at a private tutorial what you need to know for the math, the science, the English, the critical reading, and the essay. For example, on the essay, which is a position paper, the scorers like it when a student recognizes that his or her position, while preferable to the opposing point of view, is not a cure-all. We have cracked the ACT code, we know what the test wants and expects students to do, and we take supreme joy in passing that along to our students. If you are not sure if the ACT is the right test for you consider taking The SAT/ACT Diagnostic to see if the SAT is a better choice.
How We Do It
It’s not unusual for our students to dramatically increase their scores and surpass the 30 mark. We net out for students just how to negotiate each portion of the exam. The science, for example, is more about how well a student can read, interpret, and predict trends based on graphs, tables, and diagrams than what he or she knows about chemistry or human biology. We teach students how to quickly read and make sense of ACT graphs. We know the 25 topics of math that appear on every test, and the limited number of ways that math questions are presented, and we also share the 15 additional math topics that appear on most ACT exams. Since more topics are covered on the ACT the test goes into less depth on each one. The English section, which is dedicated to grammar, can be visualized quickly: 65 percent of the exam is removing words, 20 percent is No Change, and the remaining 15 percent is easy to bring home. Scores increase once students see how manageable the ACT is.

We have spent thousands of hours working with students and developing superior methods, including visual aids to supplement all of our classes which help students to excel on the test by allowing them to see why the right answers are correct. Just take a look at our track record.
While the ACT is billed as a content exam unlike the SAT (which measures reasoning skills as well as content), make no mistake the ACT has its own brand of slippery questions that often get the best of students. Whether students take our five week, 23 hour ACT class, come in for one-on-one prep, or meet us online for prep, we give them the skills to spot the ACT traps.

The majority of the students we see – who have studied for both tests – say they are more comfortable with the ACT. Students say that because the ACT is more like the tests they take in school. It’s important to point out that we’ve noted that the students who score better on the ACT than on the SAT have strong working memories and can process material quickly. We’ve also noticed that the ACT can be a superior test for students with learning disabilities, who have time and a half and who would like to score the equivalent of a 500 on the SAT.
